If you’re a regular visitor to dontbeapassenger and you follow our Twitter and Facebook streams you may have heard mention of our exciting new Green Celebs project. There are many international sites which showcase Hollywood’s rich, famous and eco savvy, so we decided to do some digging in our own backyard and find out just how green our South African personalities are.
It proved a bit challenging to pin down such busy and influential people but so far the response from most of our celebs has been great. Freshlyground, Debora Patta, Steve Hofmeyr, Grant Nash and Anele Mdoda, Trevor Noah, David Kau and Jesse Clegg are just a few of the famous faces coming soon to dontbeapassenger.
We plan to chat to each personality and find out about their lifestyles, stance on environmental issues, and their thoughts on our campaign and the DBAP video. The interviews will then be posted on our blog for your green reading pleasure!
We’d really love your feedback on this project so don’t hesitate to email info@donbeapassenger.com and tell us who you’d like to see on Green Celebs and what you’d like to ask them.

Hi Pieter, thanks so for your comment and I fully understand your view. We do not intend for Green Celebs to be a serious analytical or opinion feature, but more as a fun way to guage the level of environmental consciousness amongst prominent South Africans. As leaders in their respective fields most of them have large groups of followers with whom they hold influence, so we are interested to find out if and how they use their celebrity status to make a difference. We are looking to feature a broad range of people, so I’ll definitely be following up on those names you mentioned!

How about Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bishop Geoff Davies and Prime Circle.

Sorry, guys but I think you’re missing the plot completely here. I’ve been lucky enough to see your show car and facilities and Optimal is an awesome company with an awesome product and vision. But to try and punt our “Cover of You-magazine” style celebs as thought leaders when it comes to green thinking won’t cut it. I couldn’t care less what Steve Hofmeyr think or does. We have enough idiots in this country making daft statements about things they haven’t a clue about. Lets change that and lets hold up people who are known for their informed and sensible ideas, in stead of their looks or Blue Bulls songs. How about Lewis Pugh, Bishop Tutu (I hear he loves his new iPad), and Riaan and Michelle Garforth-Venter as some people I can immediately think of. They’re trendy, and they actually have worthwhile viewpoints.
