We started dontbeapassenger at the beginning of this year with the intial aim of creating a community of environmentally conscious and motivated people, and to raise and discuss issues of sustainability within this group. Our plan for the last few months of 2010 is to become more active and make a difference on a slightly bigger scale. We can’t wait to take the next step, and we hope you’ll join us!
Muizenburg beach clean up

On the Saturday of National Clean Up Week (13 to 19 September) dontbeapassenger will be cleaning up a section of Muizenberg beach in Cape Town. Our efforts are greatly needed in this surfers’ spot which is often covered with litter! The Plastics Federation of South Africa has offered to supply us with gloves and bags, and will also dispose of the rubbish we collect.
What you need to know:
Date: 18 September
Time and place: 9am at Sunrise Circle, Muizenberg beach
The clean up should last about two hours and we’ll bring some snacks for a relaxed beach picnic afterwards! If you’d like to join us email info@dontbeapassenger.com so we know how many sets of gloves and bags we need – we’d love to see you there!
Volunteering at FoodBank SA

FoodBank SA is a wonderful organisation commmitted to ending hunger in South Africa. We’d like to get a group together to participate in one of their corporate volunteering days in Cape Town. These involve activities like spending time at the FoodBank warehouse sorting and preparing food products, and making sandwiches for the school Lunch Buddies scheme.
There is a participation cost of R300 per person which goes towards funds for FoodBank and their great work. If you’re interested in joining us on the morning of Wednesday 22 September from 8 to 12, why not ask your company to sponsor you and a co-worker?
We can only participate if we get enough people interested. Email info@dontbeapassenger.com if you’d like to get involved with this awesome initiative so that we know numbers by 15 September.
