Charging of batteries while driving the joule.
Submitted by Kevin Tucker – Friday, 30 July 2010
Why can’t you create a circuit or device that is fitted in the Joule which charges the car while driving it? There are a few inventions that can accomplish this. Devices that create more energy than they use. This will make the Joule the ultimate in electrical cars.
Imagine having an electrical car that you do not need to refuel or recharge. You can just keep on driving it. That eliminates the 300km battery limit.
Household Recycling
Submitted by Angela Wolmarans – Thursday, 29 July 2010
One thing SA does not follow through on is recycling, for example “glass” Consol along with the Glass Recycling Company, a non profit organisation, set up a project which pays people for glass collected. These are the people that you see pulling pallets with a rope tied around their waists. The problem I have is that for a full day’s work of digging in black bags outside peoples’ houses these people earn enough money to buy a loaf of bread and a small bag of pap. We as South Africans need to create better incentives for these people and households should be made to seperate their garbage glass, plastic and genral waste making the collectors’ jobs easier

Poverty is a big problem in our community which could be solved if people donate money to charities to help the poor as well as improve government structures such as schools and health care facilities.

When you’re buying a coffee from a coffee shop, don’t use the little wooden sticks to stir your coffee, rather ask for a spoon, every little bit helps.
It's all in the foundation
Submitted by Prashanti – Tuesday, 20 July 2010
I believe the small, household, steps we take to reduce the effects of climate change, e.g. switch off geyser, are just part of a bigger idea of baseline perfection. This important, often overlooked, foundational step involves designing a house that is not energy intensive. Very often we worry about the aesthetics of the home – instead 1) Houses should be built so as to be cool in Summer (less Airconditioning use); warm in Winter (less Indoor heating) 2) Gardens (big or small) must be designed to reduce water and soil/sand wastage. Many people don’t know that sand is a natural resource. This my small idea and I don’t think one must be wealthy to implement it.

plant some trees
Submitted by carole – Saturday, 17 July 2010
If people could plant not only trees but fruit trees in their area, it would make a difference to climate change but also help feed the dwindling wildlife around us which is so very precious.
deforestation
Submitted by Stuart – Thursday, 15 July 2010
I am an artist and all of my works speak of conservation / climate issues. I have an installation at the end of this year fro my graduate show that is to inform people on deforestation. The ethos behind all of my work is to communicate to all demographics (not necessarily with one piece) to firstly educate on these issues and then offer simple, and if possible, fun ways to tackle the issues. I have designed a recycled business card for myself that will in itself have people working together to plant indigenous seeds.
I have so many ideas, I’m not looking to win anything I am just keen to share my talents, my experience and my passion – especially with people who have similar qualities!!!
My contact details are [e] stuart@live.co.za [c] 084 751 1771
I am based in Cape Town, will travel anywhere – especially after November when I graduate!!
I really look forward to hearing from you I really do – if you can point me in the direction of more like minded souls!! I want to fill all my 4 minutes with active motion, ever forward!!
Keep smiling
