IRO "COOK BIG"

Cooking in bulk: not sure if that saves much, if anything, as you are using a lot of energy for quite some time to keep it frozen.
I like it..!

I love the suggestion of saving water by showering with a friend – genius!! I would like to add though, I am presently writing a paper on climat concerns, primarily looking at deforestation and one thing that has come very apparent to me is that in order for any of us to get anywhere with these issues it is largel a matter of ‘state of mind’. We call this our planet, which I notice has been stated in the post ‘One Day’ on the 14 of August, it is in fact not our planet.
The truth of the matter is that the planet would survive if we were not here it does not however work the other way. When we realise that the planet is as detached from ourselves as the houses we live in or the stars above us it is easier to look at it as something to invest in, something we all need to take care of so that it will still house us. The planet is abundant in resources and has all the elements necessaryu for us to survive, we do need to respect it though and take the time to work out that our methods of production are the issue. As the book ‘Cardle to Cradle’ put it many of the measures we take today are as taking a pain killer for a hangover, it is not the hangover that is the problem rather the alcohol consumed the night before.
This translates to the fact that it is our methods of producion that need our attention. This does not mean stop recycling or stop implimenting the ‘pain killer’ to continue the possibility of longevity of life, namely ours, it does mean that whilst we take these measures to heal the damage done – we need to look at our methods. I welcome all comments here – as I am looking at this very carefully. I not only welcome but applaude any contribution!
I am based in Cape Town and looking to meet anyone that wants to get involved in some proects I am in the process of setting up, or joining a number of worthwhile organisations that are truly working toward finding and implementing solution-orientated projects. Keep smiling my brothers and sisters! Stu
Renewable Energy
Submitted by Shaane Farmer – Monday, 16 August 2010
This is not a new idea but I think it will have a huge impact on sustaining life in and for the future, we should seriously consider weaning ourselves off the way we generate electricity and start thinking about going green, i.e – getting rid of stoves and investing in gas stoves, braai more often, become wastage conscious from being water wise to littering to wasting electricity. We need to start investing in the next generation’s future – I see far too many people still not caring at all about littering, wasting energy, water etc. In our climate today we cannot afford this – people need to start making a difference, one step at a time.

Buy veggies e.g. spinach and pumpkin in large quantities. Fruit & Veg cut it in pieces for you, then you can cook once and freeze – ready to use veggies. It saves time and is less electricity consuming!

Whenever we use electricity, we help put greenhouse gases into the air. By turning off lights, the television, and the computer when you are through with them, you can help a lot.
