Instead of throwing your cigarette butts out the window, buy an ashtray container from Spar that is especially designed to fit in a cup holder. You can then empty that directly into the dustbin.

pot plant heaven
Submitted by Henry Coetzee – Wednesday, 29 September 2010
If every household can have at least one or two potplants in their home, it would make such a huge difference to our climate. We are cutting forrests down every day so if everyone just made sure they have one or two potplants in their home, it would go a long way towords keeping the enviroment clean.

Re-using
Submitted by Dean Gooranah – Saturday, 25 September 2010
Everyone should have a purchasable container for soft drinks, from buying these strong multi-material objects, refills can can be made at shops by some form of cylinder containing the drink. This idea will help reduce the use of plastics and also make the prices of drinks cheaper. Nothing can be added to the mixture of the drink as the manufacturer will have to personally replace empty cylinders.
recycle plastic
Submitted by Chirag Gupta – Friday, 24 September 2010
Although it is not yet possible to avoid the use of plastic, we need to make more effort to recycle. Government could open depots where old plastic of any kind gets taken in exchange for money. This might contribute to reducing plastic bottles or plastic bags we see on our roads. Plastic received can be recycled for further use.
This would generate money for government and the people.
Use alternative sources of energy.

Try using alternative sources of energy like solar power or encouraging governments to make more wind generators.
Rubbish chutes for apartment blocks
Submitted by Paula – Thursday, 23 September 2010
People who live in flats/apartments are limited for space and so having all the bins/bags/boxes necessary for recycling paper, plastics, glass and tin can be a challenge. I suggest having pipes or chutes either built into the buildings or added on aesthetically to eliminate the need for extra space in order to recycle. These chutes would lead directly to the relevant big black bins. This could be a useful idea for new housing developments and make recycling a more natural way of life for those unfamiliar with the idea.
