Airconditioning
Submitted by Rumbarani Naidoo – Monday, 18 October 2010
Always leave windows and doors open for fresh air instead of using an airconditioner. Fresh air is better than an aircon and you will save electricity.
Telephone directory/Yellowpages opt-in list
Submitted by Tracy – Monday, 18 October 2010
People should be given the option to choose to recieve a telephone directory/yellowpages if they would like one, so that we only have to make and print what is actually needed, instead of printing thousands that just get ignored and then sent to be recycled or worse, to the landfills.
be GREEN, not MEAN.
Submitted by cara – Monday, 18 October 2010
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Know what you can and cannot recycle.
Electricity and water use can be reduced.
Water and plastic can be reused and recycled.
Being green and following the rules of Green Living, you can make the world a better place by making a difference in your household and passing the message on to firends and family.
Do it, because you can.
no microwave
Submitted by coco – Saturday, 16 October 2010
Well we stopped using our microwave because it broke and you know we can use the stove for all of the stuff you use a microwave for and you are saving electricity. Its not that hard to have a change.
Big changes, a light at a time
Submitted by isadora martinez – Friday, 15 October 2010
Small things such as replacing a 65watt-bulb for a 26-watt bulb, could make a huge difference, not only to the planet, because it won’t elevate the earths heat, but it will positively change the final outcome of our electric bill too, another change is the heater, if we could just turn the heater on for 20 minutes when its really cold, it would be enough.
with those little actions, i bet we can see the changes now.
Re-use
Submitted by Brumilde – Tuesday, 12 October 2010
Recycling is one of the most important ideas that can work if people start small, collect rain water and re-use it to water your garden or to fill your pool.
Re-use your refuse
Submitted by Rachelle – Monday, 11 October 2010
Re-use plastic bottle tops on plastic bags as storage in your cupboard.
Cut off the top of plastic bottles, attach to a small plastic bag with a rubber band for best results. Fill bag with whatever you want & voila, you have rice, seeds, pasta etc that can pour out with little mess & maximum greener pastures!
Bin It.
Submitted by Gerhard Swart – Saturday, 09 October 2010
Why throw your rubbish on the floor? Even though most people decline littering, they probably do. Yet we all have pockets. If it’s empty chocolate wrapper or even a bottle of cool drink, they can all fit in your pocket until you walk past a bin. Most people think that it’s just them, if they drop their one chocolate wrapper out their car window, it won’t effect the environment. If millions of people have that same mentality it could be catastrophic for the planet. If everyone just puts their trash in their pockets and then into the bin, our children’s children could perhaps see the world as we do.
Rubbish
Submitted by John Ward – Friday, 08 October 2010
Driving through various areas in Johannesburg I see so much rubbish just lying around in the streets.
Suggestion: each area forms their own community rubbish removal team, who cleans up the area once a week with the assistance of a small truck supplied by the council. Also, free seminars (presented by an experienced community member) could be held (with just tea or coffee), say once a month on “The Environment”.
Kelp
Submitted by Joye Newby – Thursday, 07 October 2010
Kelp has so many health properties, why can we not wrap it up in a capsule and feed it to the starving people of earth??
A little goes a long way
Submitted by Sean Kaplan – Thursday, 07 October 2010
Picking up any litter you may pass by while walking in the park, to a shop, across the road, etc. and setting aside some time every week to go and clear litter in and around your suburb. A little goes a long way.
Porcelian Solar Roof Tile
Submitted by kamo sempe – Thursday, 07 October 2010
Use a clear porcelian glass ( good resistor) embeding it with solar plates. Tiles can have contacts with the next tile to form a chain, the longer the chain the longer the store energy. If we could replace 2 square metres of tiles and replace with PSRTs on every household around the country, our carbon footprint would be reduced. The replaced tiles could be recycled and used on another house. These solar glass panels could be used for residential roofing to industrial roofing.
Our goal could be that in 10 years time every infastructure in the country uses 50% solar energy.
